 HISTORY OF HAMCON:  Check out the History of HAMCON.

 INTRODUCTION:

HAMCON is an Amateur Radio organization formed several years ago to coordinate the Los Angeles area ARRL Southwestern Division Convention every 4 years.

This convention is held each year in a four year cycle. The cycle is at Los Angeles, then to the Phoenix, AZ area, next it is held in Riverside, then in San Diego, and then back to the Los Angeles area.

The Southwestern Division encompasses Southern California and all of Arizona. This is an official ARRL convention. This will be one of the biggest Conventions in Southern California you don't want to miss.

 TRANSPORTATION (BUSES) TO THE CONVENTION:

We have a few seats left about 90% filled.

The San Fernando Valley ARC has obtained transportation (Buses) from the City of Los Angeles to transport us from the:

118 fwy to offramp @ Porter Ranch Drive head north 1/4 mile to the In-Out Burger at 8:30..bus leaves @ 9:00am !

  • HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS: Get your Hotel reservations in, and be sure and ask for the "HAMCON 2007" discount. This expires on August 14th.

    The Special rate of $109 per night double occupancy will be from September 5 through the 12th. This rate gives you a choice of one king size bed or two double beds, including parking. The Convention is September 7, 8, and 9th.

  • TRANSMITTER HUNTING:

    There will be a Friday night mobile transmitter hunt at the ARRL Southwest Division convention.

    You can find convention details at www.hamcon.org 

    We will have prizes! (You must be registered to win prizes.)

    Glory! (No registration required to hunt for glory. Come on out.)

    The hunters will check in with the huntmaster with their vehicles at the start point (very near the convention site) about 7:00 p.m. on September 7, 2007. (Talk in on 146.565 Mhz.) The hunt will being around 7:30 p.m. The rules will be announced at the start.

    N6MI is the hider.

    Joining in on TECH TALKS

    Joe Moell KØOV will present "Direction Finding for Search/Rescue, ELTs and More" on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rooms 2-4.  

    Medal-winner Jay Thompson W6JAY will describe "Getting Started in ARDF" on Saturday at 9 AM in Rooms 3-5.

  •  VE TESTING:  VE testing for all classes of license, including Morse code testing will be available during the convention. Bring $14.00 and if you intend to upgrade, a copy of your current license is required. For more information click on VE-Testing.

  •  W1AW/6 Special Event Station:  There will be a W1AW Amateur radio communication room set up for the registered patrons. For more information click on W1AW Special Event Station.

  •  WOUFF HONG:  Initiation into the Royal Order of the Wouff Hong is available to any licensed amateur who is a member of ARRL. For more information click on Wouff Hong.
